I was really not going to do a gift guide this year because it’s been sooooo long since I’ve blogged BUT I’ve gotten so many nice messages from readers asking me if a gift guide was coming so I decided to get my act together and do one. Mr. H+F is also working on his “for him” guide as has become the custom around here, I guess! Per usual my gift guide is a combination of things I own and love and feel you should know about and things I don’t own but want (hint, hint). Let’s get to it! Links at the bottom of the post.
1. Nordic Beach Fluffy Jacket
Ok so I literally just bought this today at a local holiday marketplace fair thing in our town at my BFFs recommendation and I kinda can’t understand how I’ve survived past Boston winters without it. YOU GUYS it is the fluffiest, softest, warmest but somehow simultaneously lightest thing I’ve ever felt. It’s like being hugged by a cloud. I’m going to live in this thing! I will admit it’s a little wookie-like but it’s so worth it. If you are traveling at all for the holidays this is a must. It’s perfect for long car rides or planes because it can be balled up into a much needed pillow. And the one size fits all sizing makes it a breeze for gifting to others.
2. Pineapple Tassel Keychain
I was recently gifted this as part of a super thoughtful housewarming gift (thanks Stac!) and I’m OBSESSED with it. Is it absurd to be obsessed with a key chain of all things? Yes, obviously but it’s SO CUTE with the gold tassels. I get compliments on it all the time. They also have a parrot which I’m tempted to buy but I mean, how many tassel key chains is too many for a girl to have? 2 is probably the answer so I’ll just be happy with my pineapple.
3. Rothys Flats
I first came across these at a boutique on Nantucket this fall and if I hadn’t been rushing to catch my ferry, I absolutely would have bought them. Made of recycled water bottles, these cute flats offer the versatility of a sneaker but with the polish of a dress shoe. They’re super light weight and come in so many great colors and patterns, rounded toe and pointed – they basically go with everything so you have no more excuses for wearing your ratty flip flops or sneakers when leaving Pilates/yoga.
4. Gold New Balance
..but if you must wear athletic shoes about town, at least make them these cute gold ones, right? As an aside, I look at these shoes every year and every year I tell myself I’ll just wait til they go on sale after the holidays to pick them up. Well I’m hear to tell you that 3 years running now, after the holidays the only sizes left are like 5s and 11s. So good for you 5/11 people but the rest of us, we gotta pay full price. Sorry that’s just how it is.
5. Diff Sunglasses
Designer looking eye wear in totally on trend colors but at a much more manageable price. Like you don’t have to cry if you accidentally sit on them in the car (not that I know anything about that.) And in a very TOMS fashion, for every pair sold they donate a pair of reading glasses.
6. Faux fur pull through scarf
A fashionista I most certainly am not. I’m all about being comfortable but still looking like I took more than a minute to get dressed for an event. Enter this furry, pink creation. Pair this with a black tee and some leather leggings and you are holiday ready in no time. Or y’know…the person you’re buying it for. Because we’re definitely not shopping for ourselves this time of year right?
7. Leather front moto leggings
Speaking of leather leggings. I know some of you are like “Dina, I can’t pull off leather leggings”. I thought the same but I am here to tell you, you can and you must. These are my go to because they are leather only in the front. The back is just normal, stretchy legging material making them super comfortable. They are shockingly flattering. I’m telling you, get a pair and thank me later. Dress them up or down with booties or heels and a chunky necklace.
8. Moto vegan “leather” legging pant
If you still can’t commit to the leather legging, I beg you to try these. A pull-on (elastic waist!) legging that’s elevated a bit with the addition of the moto detail on the knees. I also own the riding pant style and I pretty much live in them during the week. Again a perfect girlfriend, sister, sister-in-law gift because you can’t get the sizing wrong. People ask me about them all the time!
9. Ombre Pinata Tassel Earrings
Got a girlfriend you need to buy for but not sure what to get her – fun tassel earrings are the answer. Not super expensive but still great looking. Can’t lose, especially with all the color options.
A fun hostess gift or white elephant/secret Santa exchange gift! These are great all year round but especially fun for writing holiday specific messages (think: from your Elf on a shelf)
11. Retro Polaroid camera
A real life CAMERA….that PRINTS photos?! How retro! The pink color just makes it that much more fun of course. This would be a blast at a holiday party. Don’t forget the film!
12. Wonder Woman iPhone 6 & 6S Chara-cover
This another item I own and get asked about all the time. It’s ridiculous, I will fully admit, but it’s fun. I love seeing people’s faces when I hold it up to take a photo and believe it or not, I have never cracked my screen since I started using this thing about 3 years ago. It’s a little bulky but it actually does protect my phone. I’ve re-bought it 2x. And if Wonder Woman isn’t your thing (um…why not?) they also have Batman, Spiderman, Batgirl, etc
13. (not pictured) The Magnolia Story
If you’ve got a Fixer Upper devotee on your list, this is a no-brainer. ‘Nuf said.
Back later this week with the “for him” list!
