I feel like all of a sudden, I’m posting about all these fabulous getaways I’m having. I swear I never go anywhere but incredibly, for 2 weekends in a row now I’ve been totally spoiled. This past weekend, I got to experience the new Gilded Hotel, a Lark Hotels property designed by Rachel Reider, in Newport, RI. The getaway was part of a coordinated weekend by Lark Hotels to bring together bloggers from the lifestyle, fashion, travel and interiors industries to experience all that this fabulous new property has to offer. I can tell you without reservation, it did not disappoint and I am super excited to share just some of what I captured of the property.
The hotel occupies an impressive Victorian era home on a charming side street in Newport, well within walking distance to all the action on Thames and Bellevue. After an extensive renovation, the new incarnation is like an assault on your senses in the very best way possible. The concept for Gilded is a modern take on the storied golden age of Newport where decadence and a “more is more” attitude reigned. Saturated jewel tones, lush textiles, sparkly metallics and a hint of the unexpected greet you at every turn. The designer, Rachel Reider (who I’ve posted about before here and here …geez fan girl much?) really outdid herself which I didn’t even think was possible given the other spaces she’s done!
When we arrived on Friday the downstairs parlor lounge had been totally reconfigured to host all the bloggers for a 6 course, sparkling wine pairing dinner catered by Delsie Catering. I know you guys…I was really slumming it this weekend.
Here’s what the room looks like on a day to day basis. It was of course spectacular for dinner but I loved seeing it put back together the way Rachel had originally envisioned it for the space even more.
My digs for the weekend! This bedroom really opened my eyes to the fact that asymmetry isn’t the end of the world. I can absolutely see myself trying to figure out this layout and fretting over the off-center window behind the bed and maybe even try to put the bed in the bay because of it. But the room is definitely better this way. On paper it would bother the heck out of me but given the luxury of standing in a finished space like this, I think we can all agree, it’s 1000% fine.
Because this is an older house, all the rooms are different and wonderfully quirky in their own way. Some are decorated with a more masculine vibe (like mine with the leather headboard and houndstooth drapes above) while others have more feminine elements like this out of this world headboard!
The bathrooms all featured pretty standard materials but used in creative ways, like these black and white marble tiles which I’m going to guess started as standard 12″ squares that got cut down to 6″x12″s and installed in this great stripe pattern. Such fantastic inspiration.
This doesn’t have anything to do with interiors but I HAVE to share this shot of the curated, small plates breakfast selections available every morning for hotel guests. Everything was so beautiful and delicious, it was almost too much to bear. But I managed 🙂
What a special place this is! If you’re looking for a great spot in Newport for a girl’s weekend, a couples getaway, etc DEFINITELY look into Gilded. And if Newport isn’t on your list, check out where the other Lark properties are here. They are in some phenomenal locations, each with their own boutique vibe, always with an eye toward innovative and exciting design. I.AM.SOLD. Oh! And they have 2 new properties coming this fall which I’m so excited about – one in Salem, MA and one in Stowe, VT. Um…yes, please!
I can’t say thank you enough to all the people at Lark that worked so hard to make this weekend happen. Every single detail was conceived and executed to perfection and I had to pinch myself more than once! Beyond all the awesome events, the highlight of the trip was definitely getting to meet so many phenomenal women, many of whom I’ve “known” online for a long time. Every one of them taught me something and made me laugh without a hint of catty, competitive BS. So inspirational – all of them! Hit up the hashtag #gildedgetaway to see more of the fun we had.
