When I was putting together our gallery wall, I decided I wanted another piece of high shine gold to compliment the horseshoe crab. I didn’t want to go the spray paint route because I really wanted high shine. Enter my new favorite craft supply – gold mylar tape.
It’s cheap ($8 for a 72 yard roll!) and it comes in 0.5″, 1″ and 2″ widths. And the best part, it’s insanely shiny! Like mirror finish shiny which is exactly what I wanted. This was the easiest little project. Less than 10 minutes and I had it done and hung. I love satisfying things like that!
I started with a plain white 9″ square IKEA Ribba frame I had on hand. I popped out the glass and mat and then lightly measured and marked the center.
I didn’t really have a design in mind – I just new I wanted a stripe effect and decided on a little zig zag piece at the top so I measured 1/2″ out from center.
Then I literally just started cutting strips of the tape and applying them. I really just eyeballed the spacing between these stripes. The tape is very forgiving and you can pull it off and reapply
I popped the glass and my One Heart Boston art back in, cleaned it all with some glass cleaner (that super shiny finish on the tape is very finger print prone!) and added some 3M strips to the back for hanging.
I love that it adds another graphic element to the wall and isn’t just a plain frame. And for $8 and 10 minutes I’d say it’s a win!
Seriously, I can think of 10 other projects I want to try with this Gold Mylar Tape. Wouldn’t it be awesome on a wall?
